When I first met Heather and started Pilates, I could barely walk!! No exaggeration, I was suffering from a herniated spinal disc, sciatica, back pain, sacroilliac joint pain ect-basically my whole lower body hurt and I couldn't even walk for 1 minute without immense pain. I had been suffering for nearly 10 years on and off but this was the worst episode yet. I was recommended to do Pilates and didn't really believe it would help, but I gave it a go. 

At my first class I could barely lift my leg off the floor, and for the following months I was scared to try anything new, let alone even try a modified bridge exercise

Flash forward 3 years (almost) and I have been going every week multiple times, and Hev is truly the best teacher I have ever had. I can now confidently try any Pilates exercise she throws at us and don't worry it will cause any pain or flare ups! I am 24 and forever grateful to Hev for helping me get my life back! I wish I had started Pilates earlier as I am so proud of what I have achieved now! I can walk, lift weights, hold a plank, basically do anything I put my mind to-and I even tried running last month which is something 2 years ago I truly believed I would never be able to do again!

Welcome to Hero Shrew fitness. You're probably thinking why Hero Shrew?

The Hero Shrew is the only mammal which has a

"Super Spine." (more info about the Hero Shrew on my home page)

We simply cannot function and enjoy a full and pain free life without good spinal health.

 

My philosophy is to strengthen every bone, joint, and muscle in the body (including the hands and feet) to support a strong, stable and supple spine

"A Man Is Only As Young As His Spinal Column"-a famous quote from Joseph Pilates the creator of the Pilates Method- originally known as Contrology.

My fitness knowledge spans over 23 years in which time I've qualified in a wide variety of fitness styles, including some weird and wonderful passing trends.

I've had the privilege of overseeing two large studio time tables in seperate fitness clubs and lead a great team of Instructors. I have also qualified as a trainer and assessor to teach others to become Pilates teachers.

I really believe in the power of group exercise, it has many benefits, however a more personal hands on approach to training means that the exercises can be specific for the individual needs and goals of the client.

Health and a fulfilling life is my personal approach to my own fitness, something I am passionate to share with others. I practice what I preach and train six days a week in all the methods that I offer my clients. This enables me to feel the same responses my clients will feel.

I believe everybody can exercise and every body can exercise-my oldest client is 88 years young!

Imparting my knowledge of why they are doing the exercise and understanding what it is for is a key factor in educating my clients not only in their bodies but in their minds too.

Whether you are recovering after surgery, have an ongoing issue with pain or rigidity, if you regulary partake in a sports specific activity such as tennis, golf, football, rugby, running, swimming and want to progress and reach a higher potential or simply want a better quality of life, through Functional Training-Free Weights, Calisthenics, Yoga and Pilates nothing is impossible and anything is achievable. Age is of no consequence either as it's never too late to start!
